Evidence Based First Aid with regard to Pre-Hospital Emergency Care. This workshop will tackle the fundamentals of critically appraising a research paper with a focus on pre-hospital emergency care in Ireland.
There are no prerequisites, anybody with an interest in first aid or pre-hospital emergency care can attend. However, given the nature of the workshop, participants should be willing to partake in group discussion of the topics presented. We especially welcome enthusiastic first aiders who want to gain a better understanding as to why they carry our certain procedures and interventions.
During the course of the workshop papers relating to all levels of first aid and pre-hospital emergency care will be presented and discussed. The focus will look at techniques and interventions common to all level of responders and practitioners who practice in Ireland. For example, all first aid books, paramedic manuals and clinical practice guidelines recommend raising the legs of a shocked casualty. We will critically look at some of the evidence and have a group discussion on its merits.
Students who attend this course will receive a Medicore Medical Services certificate. Health care workers can use it as part of their learning portfolio towards their own CPD requirements.
